About Karthik Subramany

Background

Karthik started playing violin at the age of 5 and he has been actively performing since the age of 9. He has been the recipient of most coveted Guinness World records and has collaborated with some of the leading musicians of the world. He has founded renowned World Fusion band consisting of international musicians, Karthik Subramany Live.

Karthik hails from a family of musicians. With strong roots in Carnatic, he is also well versed in playing Indian film, Ghazals, Western classical, Pop & Blues. He has given numerous concerts both as a soloist and as an accompanist enthralling audiences at various venues in India and internationally  

He has received many other awards including the Special award from Lord Mayor of Sheffield, UK and best violinist award for his violin solo performances. Karthik became the first and youngest Indian violinist to feature twice on BBC Radio, Sheffield, UK in 2012.

Karthik has been nominated for IndianRaga Fellowship, the world’s most prestigious network of performing artists.IndianRaga is an Arts education startup founded at MIT producing the best collaborations and authentic, yet groundbreaking new works in the performing arts.

 

He has successfully completed the Western music theory course from the University of Edinburgh, UK, Developing musicianship course from Berklee College of Music, USA.  He has also successfully completed Western Classical music composition  course from National University of Singapore with distinctions.  After completing Northwestern University’s “Teaching the Violin and Viola: Creating a Healthy Foundation,” he became a community mentor on Coursera to help guide other teachers.

Karthik has been conducting violin classes online for more than a decade. He has trained more than 500 students from nearly 100 countries so far.

KARTHIK SUBRAMANY LIVE – WORLD FUSION BAND

Having collaborated with musicians from diverse musical backgrounds, the journey enabled Karthik to develop his own unique IndoWestern style bringing best of both worlds and led him to form his own band, Karthik Subramany Live.

The band has strong roots in Carnatic and specialises in blending the genre with World music. The band plays their own compositions in their own unique IndoWestern style as well as different genres of music such as Indian film, Pop, Jazz, Ghazals and Blues. 

The band has given many concerts at various venues during different contexts such as Corporates, Weddings, Parties, Religious functions, Festivals, Yoga & Wellness center to name a few.  Recently, the band’s world music concert has been featured on News 9.

Musical Training & Education

Undergone training in violin from late Vidwan M. Chennakeshavan (Disciple of legendary musician Padma Vibhushan Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and Padma Bhushan M. S. Gopalakrishnan) and from Vidwan R.S Ramakanth, son of Padmabhushan R. K Srikantan.
